Motel Monday - Two For the Price of One

Vintage signs are generally like wolves... they travel in packs and are rarely alone. When I map out my road trips the end result is often clusters of flags separated by empty spaces that vary in size. Today's two motel signs are no exception.

Located on Sepulveda Boulevard in Culver City, the Astro Motel and Deano's Motel are literally two peas in a pod. The motels sit right next to each other on Sepulveda, and they are only a stones throw away from the Half Moon Motel, Johnnie's French Dip and a few other establishments sporting vintage neon. But the Astro and Deano's seem to be made for each other.

Motel Monday - Whywhata?

Spontaneous road trips are the spice of life, and the day I found the Yreka Motel while road tripping with my parents was no exception. We'd spent the weekend in Ashland Oregon watching my sister play softball and were on our way home when we started taking scenic detours. Historic Route 99 winds through several little towns off the main freeway, including places like Weed, Shasta, and Yreka.

This googie plastic sign immediately caught my eye. It's metal sputnik and the colors of the corrugated plastic letters looked like something that belonged in Los Angeles, not in this quiet mountain town. And yet there it was, staring me in the face. Naturally I had to take it's picture.

Tonight I think I'll take the long way home. Happy Monday.

Foodie Friday - Get Lo

Remember that time I ended up in Kingman on accident? I know I told you about it. And I mentioned that the signs were amazing... Well, the Lo's Chinese American Restaurant sign is no exception. I love the color selection, with that pale sea foam green right next to an incredibly deep orange. And then of course there's the yellow arrow filled with bulbs. Who doesn't love classy arrows?

Lo's is just off Route 66 but the sign can be seen from Andy Devine Drive. Across the street is another Route 66 icon and Chinese food spot, the ABC Restaurant. We'll save that shot for another Foodie Friday.

Motel Monday - Ride 'em Cowboy

The more I photograph neon signs, the more I begin to see patterns or themes. I'll be on the road and suddenly I'll realize that the sign in my view finder reminds me of that other sign I shot two weeks ago. And then this other sign down the road falls perfectly into this theme of signs that would make a perfect photo collection. And then the neurons in my brain start firing like crazy and I start cataloging every sign a can possibly remember. It's quite a fun, involuntary exercise.

When I photographed the New Corral Motel along Route 66 in Victorville, I had one of those ah ha! moments. Suddenly there was a western theme collection building in my head. The Hilltop Motel in Kingman, the Frontier Motel in Tuscon, the Outpost Motel in Las Vegas, the Golden Spur Restaurant in Glendora, and so many more. And with the road trips I have planned this year, this collection is just going to continue to grow.

Foodie Friday - It's Back!

Just like Motel Monday, Foodie Friday took a short holiday break. This morning it is back with a vengeance and it's sporting a very famous sign.

Randy's Donuts has been standing since 1953, but was originally part of the Big Donut Drive-In chain. The individual stores in the chain were sold off in the 1970s and Randy's Donuts on Manchester was born in 1976. Randy's changed hands one more time in 1978, but brothers Ron and Larry have owned the place ever since. You can even buy a Randy's Donuts mug with their picture printed beside the donut drive through. That my friends is pride.

In addition to being a Los Angeles landmark, Randy's has been seen in a few movies as well. I loved Tony Stark lounging inside the giant donut on the roof while eating his breakfast in Iron Man 2. I was also just a tad jealous.

For even more trivia on Randy's Donuts, you can read their Wikipedia page or check out their website. You know you're big when you make it on Wikipedia.
One last thing...their glazed donut is darn good.. If you're going to splurge on a donut in LA, drive to Randy's. I was not disappointed.

Watch Out World, I'm on YouTube

As part of the San Diego RAW Artists Holiday RAWk I took part in last month, each of the artists received photos and a short video produced by the awesome folks at RAW. I remember being interviewed, but I'd completely forgotten about the video. Well, now it's on YouTube for everyone and their pets to see.

Motel Monday - Back from Hiatus

Now that the holidays are over, Motel Monday is back from vacation. It's running a little behind schedule today, but better late than never.

I've been missing the warm weather lately, so naturally I opted for the Palm Motel from Ashland, Oregon for this Motel Monday. While it's true that Ashland has got to be pretty chilly this time of year, the Palm reminds me of summer. The sign sports a fun font, vintage plastic, warm color selection, and palm tree cut outs. If you think hard enough I promise you can convince yourself you're on the beach in July of 1988 singing Kokomo. "Bermuda, Bahama..."

Welcome to Foodie Friday!

Motel Monday is officially more than two months old, so I've decided to add a second weekly post to my blog. Since you can't have a road trip without a room to sleep in and a diner to eat in, I've decided to dedicate the end of work week to vintage restaurant signs. Besides, who doesn't want to go into the weekend thinking about food.

In celebration of Christmas, today's feature is the Grand Canyon Chop Suey Cafe with festive green and red neon lettering. I had just eaten at the Galaxy Diner, another restaurant along Route 66 in Flagstaff before taking this shot so I didn't stop in for a bite of their famous chicken friend steak... but I hear the food is amazing. Next time I'm in Flagstaff, this place is definitely on the list. I want to see their cute diner decor.

Motel Monday - Made for Each Other

This morning's selection brings you two motel signs from Las Vegas that were literally made for each other. The first is the Holiday Motel which still an operates along South Las Vegas Boulevard. It's sign is a little bit googie, a little bit circus, and a little bit space age with amazing colors. It even sports a vintage American Express shield plastic sign.

The second is the Far East Ambassador, a motel that was demolished in 2007. The sign stands on the sidewalk along Fremont Street and used to advertise $16 rooms and packaged liquor. Now the marquee just reads closed. According to the online buzz, the sign will go to the Neon Museum, a place I happen to love. I hope the rumors are true.

These photographs were taken on two different days, and at different times, but their colors and shapes make them look like long lost siblings. Placed side by side, they literally appear to be made for each other.

Both of these Motel Monday features are in my Retro Roadside Photography shop and they are ready to ship for you last minute Christmas shoppers.

Motel Monday - The Best View in Town

The beauty of road trips is that sometimes you end up in places you'd never expect. On a recent Route 66 trip I had planned on stopping in Needles, but on Friday night spontaneously decided to drive on to Kingman, Arizona. Saturday morning was warmer than expected, but the magnificent signs in Kingman were well worth being outside in the heat.

The Hill Top Motel along Route 66 was definitely one of the standouts from this trip. The bright red color doesn't hurt, but it feels like it's straight out of a Western... perfect for the cowboy in your life. And their claim that they have the best view in Kingman? Absolutely true. The view of the mountains from the parking court in front of the rooms is beautiful, and it's clear that the motel has been faithfully maintained as much as possible. If you want to know more about the Hill Top Motel, including their famous guest list, history and triva can be found on their website which includes vintage motel post cards that you won't find on eBay.

Motel Monday - As Seen On TV

I've know about this morning's Motel Monday feature for a few years now, but the Zia Motor Lodge might be a little more recognizable after being used as a filming location for Breaking Bad. That's right, this Motel Monday sign was literally seen on TV.

The Zia Motor Lodge was demolished in 2005, but the sign still stands along Route 66 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Albuquerque is home to several beautiful signs, but I was surprised by the size of this one. I've also searched the internet to find out what this sign may have said... those ghost letters leave me to believe it read Hotel at one point, but I've come up empty handed. No matter, it just adds to the character.

Motel Monday - Holiday Recovery Edition

My Blue Swallow

You know those vacations that are so full of adventure you feel like you need a vacation afterwards to recover? That's about how I feel after my Thanksgiving holiday road trip down Route 66.

The weekend started in Tucumcari, New Mexico with one of my favorite motels, the Blue Swallow. I have wanted to see this motel since I learned it existed, and it thrills me to know that the motel is alive and kicking. The Blue Swallow Motel has become a landmark on the route, and what a beauty she is. Next time, I'm definitely spending the night.

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend with your loved ones. I can't believe it's nearly December.

As I'm sitting here drafting the latest edition of Motel Monday, I'm trying to recall the blur that was my weekend. It honestly feels like I just left the office... is it really over already? Sadly it appears that way.

This week's feature is the Tucson Inn . I think it's sign sports the largest arrow I've seen any where other than Las Vegas. Tucson is home to several neon signs which will no doubt turn up on here later, but this one is definitely one of my favorites. And the light that morning... perfect!

The Torches of Barstow

Welcome to the fourth edition of Motel Monday! Today I bring you the Torches Motel, a classic icon of Route 66 in Barstow, California. No longer visible from the freeway, this motel appears to be in the midst of a remodel. The walls have been painted, new doors and windows installed, and it seems the sign has been recently painted as well. I love the aqua blue arrow! Now if only it lit up at night...

Motel Monday - Double Feature

The Desert of Anaheim

Today's Motel Monday showcases two different motels in the Los Angeles area with very similar names, the Sahara Motel and the Saharan Motor Hotel. Both signs appear to have been painted recently, and have undergone a few changes. In the case of the Sahara Motel, the changes were slight... in the case of Hollywood's Saharan Motor Hotel, the changes were rather substantial.

When I first saw this sign in 2008,the letters were still neon tubes and the blue letters were only visible at night. Within the past few years the neon and bulbs were sadly replaced with back-lit plastic letters. I wonder if the neon stars still glow at night...

I know of three other hotels with similar names: one in Jordan Valley, Oregon; a second in Albuquerque, New Mexico; and the third in Las Vegas. I can't wait to shoot the one in New Mexico in a few weeks.

Motel Monday - Late Night Edition

On this late night edition of Motel Monday I bring you a brand new shot taken yesterday of the Town and Country Motel in Livingston. Like most of these independent motels, the Town and Country can no longer be seen from the freeway. I've driven past it on Highway 99 at least a hundred times, and I've never seen it.

I love the grid pattern and the ladder climbing up the side of the MOTEL letters. I can only imaging how amazing the view must be from the top. One last random factoid... the Town and Country is located on Stefani Avenue. Throw an e on the end and it's perfect.

Road Trip Warrior - Highway 99

These past few months I feel like I've taken road tripping from a hobby to an art form. Like anything you do repeatedly, you begin to figure out just what you need, and what can be left behind. Photography road trips are no different.

This weekend is a short trip with only one day for shooting. Bright and early Sunday I'll be traveling old Highway 99 from Stockton back home to San Diego, shooting as much as possible in one day.

I love Google Maps...

This stretch of road is filled with amazing signs and my map has the little blue markers to prove it. If I manage to photograph everything between Stockton and Visalia I'll be happy. Of course I should know by now that I am overly ambitious.

I'll leave you with a teaser from a previous trip down this same route. It'd be wrong to send you into the weekend with just a map. J's Coffee will be making an appearance in my Retro Roadside Photo shop very soon.

Vacancy

If you've taken a peek at my Retro Roadside Photo shop lately I'm sure you'll have noticed that I have a habit of shooting vintage motel signs. It's taken a while, but I've gathered a rather large collection of photographs. It hit me this weekend that I should share them all, one by one, on Motel Mondays. Thus the idea was born...

It seems only fitting that I should start this series with the sign that started it all. A little more than three years ago I shot the Supai Motel sign on Route 66 in Seligman Arizona and fell in love. Better yet, as a photographer I found a subject matter that called my name. My weekend road trip destinations have become places with great neon and my maps are dotted with liquor stores, motels, abandoned lots, bowling alleys and diners. I seek out the places most people miss and relish in the hidden gems that I never expected to find. It's my own version of a treasure hunt, and the Supai Motel sign is the first jewel I laid eyes on.

I Love This Clown...

Every photographer has something they desperately want to shoot, like the Green Flash at sunset or the view from the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro. While I hope to photograph both of these one day, I dream of vintage neon signs. Believe me, I didn't call my Etsy shop Retro Roadside Photo for nothin...

One of the signs I have dreamt of for nearly two years is the Circus Liquors clown in North Hollywood. The colors, the shape, his hand pointing to the drum at his waste and the pom poms on his shoes... I love that clown. He's distinct and dare I say one of a kind. A few weekends ago I finally got to see him for myself. Here's a teaser:

Eat at Jim's

These past few weekends have been a photographer's dream... gorgeous weather and two road trips. I spent three days in Los Angeles over Labor Day weekend and spent this past weekend driving Route 66 from Kingman, Arizona out to the beautiful California coast. I have enough photographs to keep me busy for weeks.

Today's photographic googie goodness can be found in Hawaiian Gardens just off the 605 freeway. My advice, come hungry... the food smelled so good.

Hello there,

For those of you who might be finding me for the first time, welcome!

At this moment, I'm in a bit of a transition. I'm in the process of updating my website and will have the new site up in a few months. It's been in progress for months... I guess I'm a bit of a perfectionist.

I'm also working on a new blog which you'll most likely find if you just google me. Like the wesbite, it's been in the works for a while. The goal is to have two separate blogs. This blog will continue as my fine art blog, filled with my prints available on Etsy, links to other fine artists, and all that DIY stuff I love that isn't really pertinent to potential brides and grooms or seniors searching for a portrait photographer. My new blog will showcase my most recent work for clients.

It's been so long since I blogged I'm almost afraid I've forgotten how. Sure typing is easy enough, but it's always the photo placement and size that trips me up. When you're a photographer, the visual aspect is usually the most important... guess I better get it right.

To start the new year off like a proper photographer I've decided, among a few other things, to undertake the now oft overdone 365 project. Yes, it's old hat and rehashed and far too popular, but I still think it has merit and I'm going to take a photograph a day for the entire year. You've been warned.

I have a few more things in mind that I'll share with you over the next couple of days, but for now I'm going to leave you with the start of my project. Here's to new beginnings and hopes for a a full, wondrous year.

Julia & Erick - Gloucester

Earlier this month, Julia and Eric renewed their vows at an intimate and gorgeous ceremony at Good Harbor Beach. We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day.

Julia claims she's never modeled. I don't believe her for a second...

After the wedding party readied themselves at a nearby hotel, we all made our way to the beach.

Maggie & Rob - The Portsmouth Pearl in Portsmouth, NH

Earlier this month Maggie and Rob were married at the beautiful Portsmouth Pearl in Portsmouth New Hampshire. This was my first trip to the Granite State and it was great to travel some place new.

Traci & Mark - The Public Gardens and The Red Fez in Boston

Mikayla's Sweet Sixteen - Waltham

This past month Mikayla celebrated her sixteenth birthday with her family and friends in Waltham. Her Sweet Sixteen party was really her Quinceañera, just a year later. This meant that all the important traditions were included in the event, right down to the 32 attendants.

We started in the Boston Common and Public Gardens for some group photos before heading to the event.

Dena & Chris - The Public Gardens in Boston

My friends and neighbors Dena and Chris are getting married! Sadly they're not getting hitched in Boston, but I at least had the pleasure of taking their engagement photos.

The lovely couple had a theme in mind for their shoot and we totally ran with it. We hit a few snags with props but in the end we made it work. So without further ado here's a few tidbits from our fun Pushing Up Daisies inspired session in the Public Gardens.

Paula & Marc - The Lennox Hotel in Boston

Last month Paula and Marc were wed in a beautiful and intimate ceremony at the Lennox Hotel. I had the distinct honor of being part of their day for a few hours and it was one of those weddings where you walk into the room and you can feel the happiness. In short, it was amazing.

Last Night Ride - Boston & NYC Band Portraits

I've recently discovered that I really love shooting portraits of musicians. I think there is just something different about a band shot... musicians are willing to be goofy or serious or way over the top... whatever it takes to get that perfect shot. Perhaps it's the group atmosphere. Or perhaps as my Uncle Michael would put it, it's a little from Column A and a little from Column B. Either way, I like it.

Over the past month, I've photographed the guys from Last Night Ride in Boston and New York City to create images for promotional purposes. Their website is currently a work in progress but I'll post the link for you as soon as I have one. Until then, you'll just have to live with the visuals.

Katie & Jon - Plymouth and Hingham

Just last Friday I made my first ever trip to Plymouth to capture some before the wedding pictures of Katie and her family at her parent's beautiful home.

Katie was nearly ready by the time I arrived and in no time at all we were off to the Scarlet Oak Tavern in Hingham for the ceremony. Poor Jon got stuck in traffic...

Following a beautiful patio ceremony, the reception took place upstairs. Of course a few family members hung around outside for photos...

I love this room. So intimate and cozy, and yet soft and airy. Amazing.

After finishing the family portraits and sending the guests upstairs, it was finally time to snap some shots of the new Mr. & Mrs.

Josh's Bar Mitzvah - Sheraton Needham Hotel

A few weeks ago Bob from Robert Ruscansky Photography and I took a short drive to the Sheraton Hotel in Needham for Josh's Bar Mitzvah celebration. We arrived early to snap a few details before the party started.

I might mention the decorations more than once, but the guitar centerpiece with Josh's name... awesome. I want one. What a fantastic way to be welcomed to your party.

The airbrush artist painted custom T-shirts for Josh's guests based upon their individual requests. A pretty cool parting gift if you ask me.

And then in an instant the party was in full swing...

Look at that synchronization! It's almost like the guests practiced in advance.

Josh's little sister led the blessing. She had such a great voice. It was quite possibly the cutest thing ever.

After the important stuff there was more games, more dancing, and plenty of silliness.

I'm a big fan of the green stuffed guitar, matching shades and hat.

Crane Estates Seaside Wedding Show

On April 17th, a friend and I traveled to The Crane Estate in Ipswich to check out their wedding show and see Anita from Viva Amore. If you're still looking for that perfect dress, Viva Amore is a wonderful place to go. Their boutique is adorable, their dresses are affordable, and they're eco-friendly! You can't lose.

I thought their display was beautiful...

The gown and veil on the staircase caught the attention of The Wicked Local and got a nod in their article about the event. I believe the words they used were "Simply elegant."

I happen to agree with them, but I'll let you decide for yourself.

Hannah & the Moose

One of the things I love about Boston is it's thriving music scene. With all the colleges in town there is tons of young musical talent. On Sunday I met up with some of that talent, a band by the name of Hannah and the Moose, for a fun shoot throughout the city. We started in Harvard Square and worked our way into Boston, making sure to take advantage of the scenery along the way.

I can't decide if this shot in the Gardens is my favorite...

Stinson for Selectman - Hamilton

Yesterday was the kick-off party for Jeff Stinson's campaign for Hamilton Selectman. I may not have a press pass, but I was Mr. Stinson's press for a day.

The spread before everyone arrived and the food disappeared. Shortly after this shot the event went into full swing.

It's no secret that I am a big fan of neon signs. The second I saw this neon light bulb mess on my way home one day I knew I had to photograph it in all it's glory.

Now sometimes the signs come to you and they cross your path in the course of your daily life... but most of the time you have to go find them, just like any other photograph you might ever want to take. Sometimes the beauty of photography is the exploration. It's all part of the fun.

Since arriving in Boston I have failed miserably at exploring. I've rarely found new things by searching, I've only stumbled upon them when running errands or other tasks. I've not seen the city. However I'm happy to report that for the next week or so this will no longer be the case. Next week is devoted to exploration, searching, finding, getting lost and finding some more. Next week is about seeing. Next week is about Boston.

Now let's hope the weather cooperates...

When it was a tad warmer and sunnier than it is today, Christine and I met up in Brighton to snap a few head shots. Christine is a dancer and hip hop instructor who needed to add to her portfolio for some upcoming auditions. I loved these environmental yet slightly urban portraits, and Christine brought a style and flare all her own. Isn't she gorgeous?

I Love Honey Nut Cheerios...

It's true, I do. Ask anyone. I can eat handfuls of the them for breakfast, lunch, a snack or dinner.

What else do I love? Retro packaging. I mean look at these! Can you image handmade gift tags of the characters? The Leprechaun would make a perfect St. Patrick's Day themed tag. And Bullwinkle? Don't even get me started.

This Cheerios Bee doesn't look very vintage, but when you compare him to the new packaging, there's a pretty substantial difference. I promise.

Freezing Friday

Early this afternoon I went for an impromptu walk around Back Bay with my camera in tow. The sun was shining, the sky was bright blue, and there was minimal snow on the ground. It was gorgeous.

So why Freezing Friday? Well, for two reasons. First is the fact that I was ill prepared for said walk, and was not properly dressed to be wandering along windy bridges across the frozen Charles. It was cold. The second reason you can see for yourself...

The idea of an entire body of water freezing over is still a little astonishing to me. Although I have lived in a place where things freeze for months on end, I was too young to actually remember it happening. I guess you could call it a new experience.

At any rate, let's get on to the good stuff. In no particular order I give you scenes from my mid-day stroll. Enjoy!

Jill & André - The Community Boating Center in Boston

On a rainy day a few months ago, Jill and André celebrated their recent nuptials with their family and friends at the Community Boating Center along the Charles River. The couple had been married in Hawaii... yes, I totally wish I'd been there to photograph the event... but held their wedding reception in Boston. And I was the lucky one who got to capture all the fun.

For example, these kids were completely hilarious. Look at that concentration! And the two who weren't playing were completely focused. They didn't want me to get too close and mess anything up. Adorable.
Of course there was food. Jill wanted me to capture it before it all disappeared.

I loved their flowers. They were so bright and colorful, and very appreciated on an overcast blustery day.
The great thing about events like these is that you have the opportunity to catch a series of images that really tell a story about the day. For instance...

You have no idea how long it took me to get this shot. He was eating watermelon for most of the reception and I thought it was so cute. But every time he'd grab a piece he'd hide from me behind the centerpieces. I had to be very very sneaky...

Shortly after the toast, just about every kid in the room wanted cake. They even started asking me when it would be served. And when the cake cutting finally happened, Jill and André were totally surrounded.
If I didn't know any better I'd think that I asked him to pose.
I'm convinced that a camera brings out the goofy in kids. I like it.
And lastly, there is nothing sweeter than a mother and her daughter or a couple that is happily in love.

President's Day

Happy President's Day Monday!

I realize that I missed Valentine's Day, but honestly who wants to read a blog when they could be spending time with their special someone? Even better, who wants to write a blog when they could be spending time with their amazing significant other? The answer is not me...

Anyway, to celebrate today I thought I would share some appropriately themed images. I must apologize to my fellow Bostonians... I don't have a photograph of Washington atop his horse gracing the entrance to the Public Gardens. I know, WHAT? I'm terrible, please forgive me. I will remedy this deficiency as soon as possible, but in the mean time I have to give you what I've got.

This weekend I saw Federal Hall, where President Washington took the oath of office for the first time in our nation's history. It's a bit nerdy, I'll admit, but I also thought it was pretty awesome. And I'd never seen it before, which made it even better.

Also awesome is today's Times' Op-Art article showcasing the hair styles of our Presidents. Can you name them all?

Jennifer & Ryan - Amherst

There's been quite a few Fine Art and Etsy related posts here lately, so I thought it was time for something a little more wedding related. Just sit back, scroll and enjoy!

A while ago I hopped in my trusty zip car and drove north and west to Amherst for Jennifer and Ryan's wedding. Jennifer got ready in their home while Ryan did his primping else where. I arrived just as Jennifer was finishing up her make up, and she already looked phenomenal.

The reception was held at the Amherst Woman's Club which is a warm and inviting place. And so full of personality.
Just look at that furniture. Classic!
The event was catered by Emily's Gourmet to Go and the table was constantly surrounded by people.

Cynthia & Ulas - Cambridge

On another rainy Saturday I made my way to the MIT Chapel in Cambridge to photograph Cynthia and Ulas' intimate and elegant wedding. We had time before the ceremony to take some photos, so we wandered the Bride and Groom's alma mater in search of dry but scenic locations. It really started to pour shortly before the ceremony and we took cover inside the MIT Chapel.

After the ceremony the rain had subsided and we decided to take advantage of the dryer weather before traveling to the reception at the Fairmont Copley Plaza.Toast! And of course dessert... Congratulations to Cynthia and Ulas. May you enjoy a long, wonderful life together!

Evan & Heather - Bellingham

Last month I took my first drive through Boston out to Bellingham for the wedding of Evan and Heather. The couple had planned an outdoor ceremony and as much as we were hoping for sunshine, Tropical Storm Danny had something else in mind. Of course, Heather and Evan were more than prepared and refused to allow the wet weather to rain on their parade. And now I promise to stop with the weather cliches and move on to what you're really here to see... the pictures. The "videographer" didn't miss a beat. She also had a very cute blue floral umbrella at some point during the day.
On to the party!Spiritual Rez was the live entertainment for the afternoon and they had everybody dancing.These two cake figurines were custom made by Bunny With a Tool Belt and were a total hit with the Bride and Groom.
The rain eventually subsided and we took the opportunity to snap a few shots in the woods. Aren't the adorable?My sincerest congratulations to Heather and Evan. And as they say in Italy... a wet bride is a lucky bride!

A few weekends ago I traveled to Salem for Ashley and Blake's wedding. It was a warm, bright sunny day... perfect for a wedding.
These two are incredibly sweet together. It couldn't be more clear that they are very much in love.
The reception was held at the Cafe Escadrille in Burlington. I loved the chandelier and detailed stone walls.

With the number of amazing photographers out there, it's no secret or surprise that it's difficult to get your name out there. A few fellow photographers had suggested that I join RedBubble and Uber to increase my exposure. I wasn't too sure about RedBubble, but I loved the Uber layout and options.

I dug around RedBubble for a little while and finally opened my account on April 5.

I searched like crazy for Uber, but unfortunately it is no longer online. I couldn't just give up on #90, so I decided to open a Flickr account instead. I opened my account on April 14, which means that #90 is done!

Last weekend I had the pleasure of photographing the Jaeger family at their home in Del Mar. I love it when families include pets, it makes things that much more fun and lively. This treehouse is by far the best I have ever seen. It even has power!

A few weekends ago I took a trip with my Dad and sister Chele to see the La Jolla Cow Parade. We ran out of daylight before running out of cows, but we saw some very interesting art and had lots of fun walking around downtown. I don't remember all of the titles, but I'll fill in what I can."Psychedelic Cow" and "San Diego Night Life". I love the dress attire in the window."Digesting the News" and "It's a G Thang"Two views of "Designer Jeans". She looks like she could be in one of those Happy Cow commercials. After all, this is California.

I've been spending as much time in the studio as possible and recently needed a model last minute after the model I'd been planning to work had a scheduling conflict. Andy graciously agreed to pose for me and was a total trooper all evening. Now, I'm not saying these will be the last of the portraits. I'm certain I'll take several more in the future; but this does mean that #28 is done!

Carlsbad Flower Fields

My Dad and sister were down here last weekend for a short visit. Our series of adventures started with a trip to the Carlsbad Flower Fields to see those crazy Rannuculas in bloom. These flowers are so unique. I'd never seen anything like Rannuculas until moving to San Diego but I absolutely adore them. And of course I just had to share.

This weekend I went to brunch at my friend Simone's adorable new home. Her style is inspiring. I loved all the fresh flowers and wonderful use of color. I think she could give some of those homes on DesignSponge a run for their money.

I've wanted to visit the Anza-Borrego Desert for a while to see the wildflowers in bloom. I finally made it to the desert with a local photography group and I had a blast. It was interesting to see such distinctive contrasts like blooming wildflowers in the middle of brush and sand. And in such heat!Some desert art just for good measure...
I'd like to go back eventually, but for now #59 is done!
